I read this article from the Purchasing and supply blog recently and I remembered so many women commenting the same situation at the WILME ( Women in Logistics- Middle East Chapter) at the event when the website was launched.

Supply Chain might be a man’s world now, but with education, effort and perseverance things will get balanced. And we have to keep one thing in mind, men are not our enemies. They are our partners. We all want the best for the profession and for the business and the trend is shifting towards the development of skills: soft and hard and well, we are more than fit to compete. Society is changing too and the care of the little ones is being distributed more evenly now that 10 years ago. (There is still a long way to go!)

The data is appalling shows so many women don’t see a bright future ahead, don’t see recognition and progress in their careers.

“The major gripes were lack of opportunities (48 per cent), lack of progression (47 per cent) and lack of a clear career path (40 per cent). Just 11 per cent described themselves as ‘extremely satisfied’ in their job..”

I catches my attention that at the same time, companies are looking for females for these positions. Mmmm.. Well, the feminine touch is definitely something to consider. You can get more ( or at least same!) in a gentle way. Aggressiveness is overrated in my opinion. In business you have to have the drive and the goal in your head and be assertive, but there is no need to punch anybody’s face or be dramatic to get things done.

We are in a global world and most of the times if the supplier is not giving you what you want, you can call the next- and they know. And specially when you are dealing with people, teams, partners.. to be able to read their moods and what is what they are needing at that moment is an advantage. This feature comes in our DNA and we use it all the time. We don’t need to be aggressive to get what we want. But watch out, we can be very tough too!

I agree 100% that we need to get of confidence up because for some reason we are part of that self-fulfilling prophecy where we delay our motherhood as we believe things, career wise, will change after that, we feel we have to go up the ladder while we are young, because there is no career movement after the thirty-somethings or forties.. ,we see the way out that situation, setting our own companies and living by our own rules. I don’t know if this thread of thought is familiar to you, but it is to me and to many of my acquaintances.
